Creative Community Gift Shop Cornwall
If you’ve popped into Molarky recently, you’ll have felt it.
Something is shifting.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been intentional changes happening behind the scenes and in plain sight. Molarky isn’t just a gift shop anymore – it’s evolving into something joyful, colourful and ever-growing. A space that feels warm when you walk in from the cold. A place where creativity is celebrated. A little hub of connection in those long, grey months that can sometimes feel endless.
This week, especially, has felt like a turning point and a creative community gift shop in Cornwall is beginning to emerge.
A Fresh Start for a New Year
January can be a funny old month. Long. Dark. Slow. But instead of resisting it, I decided to lean into it. If Molarky was going to grow this year, it needed intention. It needed movement. It needed heart.
The physical changes in the shop were only the beginning.
We introduced a new layout upstairs to allow the space to breathe more. The walls were refreshed and decorated with more intention, showcasing our artisans in a way that gives their work the spotlight it deserves. And downstairs… well, downstairs is where something truly special has begun.
The Snug.
The Snug: A Room With Purpose
When we revamped the Snug downstairs, it wasn’t just about redecorating a room. It was about creating opportunity.
Opportunity for connection. Opportunity for creativity. Opportunity to give back.
Those first few months of the year can feel isolating. The festivities are over, spring still feels far away, and the days are short. I wanted Molarky to be a place where people could gather, share skills, learn something new, or simply sit with others and not feel alone.
Through our growing social media community, that vision is already becoming reality.
✍️ Creative Writing Groups
We now have two creative writing groups meeting in the Snug — one on Wednesday mornings and one on Saturday mornings, both fortnightly.
Watching strangers arrive slightly unsure and leave chatting animatedly about characters, plot twists and poetry has been such a joy. There’s something incredibly powerful about giving people a safe space to write, share and be heard.

🧶 Knit & Natter Fridays
Every Friday afternoon the Snug transforms again as our Knit & Natter group gathers downstairs.
The gentle rhythm of needles clicking. The hum of conversation. Tea cups warming hands. Laughter echoing up the stairs.
It’s community in its purest form.
And it’s growing.
With a counsellor now booked to use the room regularly and creative workshops coming soon (more on that in a moment!), the Snug calendar is filling up beautifully. To think that just weeks ago it was an idea on paper makes me feel incredibly proud.
Upstairs: Molarky the Gift Shop
While downstairs buzzes with community, upstairs continues to grow as a curated, colourful, slightly quirky gift shop that feels very “Molarky.”
February has brought a noticeable shift. The long stretch of January is behind us and there’s a sense that Molarky is becoming established — not just as a shop, but as a destination.
Our shelves are filled with:
Local artisan products
Handmade jewellery
Unique art
Carefully chosen quirky finds that simply had to be in the shop.
Every item has intention behind it. If it’s in Molarky, it’s because I genuinely love it and believe it fits the feel of the space.
And this week, the jewellery corner had a particularly exciting glow-up.
Wednesday: A Glass Cabinet and a Determined Start
This Wednesday began earlier than usual. Before our 10am opening time, I was already in the shop, sleeves rolled up, determined.
Molarky had been gifted a tall, glass, illuminated display unit by a very kind neighbouring business — and I was absolutely set on getting it cleaned, positioned and filled before the doors opened.
It wasn’t a small job.
Moving it into place.
Polishing every pane of glass.
Filling the shelves.
But when I finally stepped back, I was delighted.
The unit now showcases the work of two of Molarky’s jewellery artisans and it has given that corner of the shop a huge professional boost. The lighting makes the pieces sparkle, and the overall feel is elevated — almost boutique-like.
It’s amazing how one thoughtful addition can transform a space.
As a thank you, I boxed up carrot cake and brownies (more on those later!) for the lovely neighbour who gifted it. Community supporting community — exactly what Molarky is about.
A New Artisan Joins the Molarky Family
Wednesday also brought exciting news.
A new local artist will be joining us at the beginning of March: Ellie, known as “The Cornish Artist.”
Ellie works primarily in acrylic, painting beautiful landscapes that capture the essence of Cornwall — the shifting skies, textured coastlines, and soft, moody horizons.
She has never placed her work in a shop before. She has, however, held her own exhibition and sold pieces there. So for Molarky to be her first retail home feels incredibly special.
There’s something magical about giving artists a platform — especially when it’s a new step for them. We’re so looking forward to welcoming Ellie properly into the Molarky community next month.
Thursday: Hanging Day with Madhouse Abstract Art

Thursday was what I lovingly call “Hanging Art Day.”
Steph, our in-house abstract artist from Madhouse Abstract Art, spent the day with me in the shop. Together, we relocated her artwork and refreshed the signage.
It was not a quick job.
Up and down the steps.
Holding frames at arm’s length.
Stepping back.
Tilting heads.
Adjusting by an inch.
Refuelling with a pasty each.
There were discussions about spacing, sight lines, flow. We wanted her pieces to have room to breathe. To feel less like a shop wall and more like an exhibition space.
By the end of the day, we were both tired — but genuinely pleased. The transformation gives her work a gallery-like presence. Each piece now has its own moment.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
Friday: Sunshine, Cake & Knit & Natter
Friday morning was cold but bright. The kind of morning where the sky is clear, the air is sharp, and there’s just the faintest whisper of spring on the breeze.
Those are my favourite kinds of days. They make everything feel possible.
The day before, I’d baked carrot cake and brownies ready for the Knit & Natter group. There’s something about home baking that makes people feel welcome. It says, “I’m glad you’re here.”
The positive buzz in the air translated into the shop. It was busy. There were chats, laughter, thoughtful purchases, and that lovely hum that happens when a space feels alive.
And on top of that — we confirmed a date and time for a felting workshop in the Snug during the third week of March.
Another pin in the calendar.
Another reason for people to gather.
With so much happening, I decided it was time to put up a monthly “What’s Coming Up” calendar in the shop window. Transparency, visibility and excitement all in one glance.
Saturday: A Secret in the Making
By the time Valentine’s Saturday arrived — marking the end of the working week — I felt accomplished.
The display cabinet was installed.
Art was rehung.
Groups were thriving.
Workshops were booked.
Most of my to-do list was triumphantly crossed off.
And then something unexpected happened.
Enter Lorraine.
Lorraine popped in looking for a handbag. We got chatting (as often happens in Molarky), and before long, I discovered she is a creator of something truly unique.
I’m keeping her products under wraps for just another week — I love a little anticipation — but I promise you this: her art is distinctive, one of a kind, and absolutely perfect for Molarky.
It felt like one of those serendipitous moments. Space opens up. The right person walks through the door.
And just like that, the Molarky community grows again.
Valentine’s Week & Social Media Buzz
With Valentine’s Day landing on the last working day of the week, much of our social media build-up was themed around love — but not just romantic love.
Love of community.Love of creativity.Love of small business.Love of handmade.
The response was heartwarming. It reminded me that Molarky is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a shared space — both physically and digitally.

Four Days a Week… For Now
At the moment, Molarky is open four days a week, beginning on Wednesday.
Each of those days feels full. Purposeful. Energised.
As we continue to grow, who knows what the future holds? But right now, I’m proud of the rhythm we’re building. It feels sustainable. It feels joyful.
And most importantly, it feels real.
Reflecting on the Week
When I look back on this week, I see:
Physical transformation
Creative collaboration
New artisans joining
Groups forming and growing
Workshops being booked
Cakes being baked
Laughter filling rooms
Connections being made
It’s been productive.It’s been fun.It’s been full.
But more than anything, it’s been affirming.
Molarky is becoming exactly what I hoped it would be: a joyful, colourful and ever-growing community. A place where creativity is celebrated. A space where people feel welcome. A shop that supports local artisans and gives them a platform.
I love Molarky. Truly.
And I love watching this community take shape — one conversation, one artwork, one workshop and one cuppa at a time.
If you haven’t visited recently, come and see what’s new. Pop downstairs into the Snug. Browse the newly hung art. Peek inside the sparkling jewellery cabinet. Check the calendar in the window.
You might just find that Molarky feels a little bit like home.
Here’s to another week of creativity, connection and colourful chaos.
With gratitude,
Molarky 💛
